Both Universiti Teknologi Brunei and Batangas State University can learn a lot from each other, but if I had to highlight one thing we could improve on back home, it would be the student-faculty ratio. I believe that a more balanced ratio would provide students with more personalized guidance and attention. Then there’s the need for better facilities—our laboratories could definitely use a revamp to match the evolving demands of the field. A more conducive learning environment would benefit our academics and overall well-being. Finding the balance between academics, mental health, and life outside of school is crucial. FALLARIA, ARCHIE M

What is your main reason in joining the exchange program?

When opportunity knocks, I don’t just open the door—I run through it! Exchange programs like this are once-in-a-lifetime chances, and being here in Brunei feels like a dream come true. I’m always looking for ways to push myself out of my comfort zone, and this experience does exactly that. I wanted to immerse myself in a new environment where my knowledge and personal and social skills would grow. It’s all about learning from different cultures, understanding new work ethics, and building connections with people from all walks of life. Plus, who doesn’t want a great story to tell? This exchange is going to be the highlight of my life.

What benefits have u gained from being an exchanged student?

Honestly, I feel like I’ve gained the world. Learning about other cultures has been such an eye-opener—I’ve learned a few phrases in the local language, made some amazing friends, and formed connections that will last a lifetime. And it's not just about academics. I’ve collected stories and experiences that I’ll carry with me forever, the kind that makes you feel like you’re living in a movie. Every moment feels like a new adventure, and the best part? I’m learning to become a better version of myself, all while embracing the beauty of diversity.

I’ve faced plenty, but I like to think of them as character-building moments. First, there's the financial pressure—learning how to budget like a pro became my hidden talent! I had to master the art of balancing my cash flow. Then, the language barrier. At first, it was intimidating, but I started picking up phrases and familiarizing myself with Brunei's local language. It’s amazing what you can learn when you open yourself up to new sounds and words. And of course, living far from my family. That’s tough. But I’ve learned to lean on video calls—those moments of laughter, sharing stories, and hearing advice from home makes me feel connected, even though we’re miles apart.
